The term REALTOR® has come to connote competency, fairness, and high integrity resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of moral conduct in business relations.
The Code of Ethics Sets You Apart From Other Agents
NAR’s Code of Ethics is what distinguishes REALTORS® from other real estate agents. The Code of Ethics is universally recognized by practitioners, lawyers and laymen alike as the measure of professionalism in real estate. When you abide by the Code, it ensures your fellow practitioners and the public of a high standard of business conduct. It is important you remain familiar with the Code which outlines your obligations to clients, colleagues and the general public.
Requirement
New SABOR REALTORS® must complete the training within 90 days of joining. From then on, REALTORS® must take the course every three years as a NAR requirement. We offer this training for all members at no cost through REALTOR® Academy, with the option of CE credit for a fee.
All members are required to undergo COE training every three years. It's important to note that the Texas Real Estate Commission Legal II course, once sufficient for license renewal, no longer fulfills the NAR requirement for REALTOR® Code of Ethics training. This policy change was ratified by the NAR Board of Directors in 2019.
If you have already completed NAR-approved ethics training in 2022, 2023 or 2024, you have fulfilled the requirement for the current cycle, which ends on December 31, 2024. However, if you have not completed NAR-approved ethics training in any of these years, it is imperative that you do so before the deadline.
